Happy Endangered Species Day!
Did you know 99% of species protected under the Endangered Species Act have been saved from extinction?
Today is a day to celebrate this importance piece of legislation while continuing to highlight and advocate for species that need our help. One of the most threatened species in the ocean are sharks.
According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 121 shark species are endangered, 90 are critically endangered, and 180 are vulnerable.
To celebrate #endangeredspeciesday join over 10,000 activists by telling United Airlines to officially prohibit the transport of shark fins in their planes’ cargo, further restricting the trade that’s pushing numerous shark species towards extinction.

Animal Agriculture doesn’t just devastate the rainforests, it also hurts our oceans. How? Here are 3 ways that animal agriculture hurts our ocean:
1. Water Pollution: Runoff of manure, fertilizers, and pesticides from livestock operations pollute nearby water bodies, including rivers, streams, and coastal areas, leading to nutrient pollution, algal blooms, and oxygen depletion, which can harm marine life.
2. Climate Change: Animal agriculture is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, primarily methane and nitrous oxide, which contributes to climate change. Climate change impacts sea level rise, ocean acidification, changes in ocean currents and temperatures, and disruptions to marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
3. Dead Zones: Nutrient runoff from animal agriculture can contribute to the formation of dead zones in oceans and coastal areas. Excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, fuel algal blooms, which deplete oxygen levels in the water when the algae die and decompose. Dead zones can lead to fish kills, loss of biodiversity, and degradation of marine habitats. 📸 @plantbasedtreaty
Putting an end to whaling in the Faroe Islands is not something we can achieve without education.
So we’re here to shed some light on a couple of myths that have been spread about pilot whale hunts, also known as the Grindadrap.
Myth #1: Faroese whaling is conducted humanely.
The Truth: The techniques used to chase, secure and kill cetaceans wouldn’t be permitted in the killing of livestock in most countries. A recent review found that the current method is ethically and morally unacceptable.
Myth #2: Faroese whaling participants are specifically “accredited” and adequately trained.
The Truth: A license to participate in whaling and use a spinal lance requires no test or practical training prior to taking part in a hunt
Myth #3: The Grindadrap hunts are
waste-free and “nothing goes to waste.”
The Truth: All parts of the pilot whales are no longer utilized. The hunts generate a substantial amount of waste, much of which may be dumped back into the sea.
